I went here, at the Norman Parathyroid Center,in Tampa, FL, for my Surgery! They were So Amazing!!! In less than 20 minutes, they removed a nodual from my Thyroid and biopsied all four parathyroids and removed one that was active. I live in CA and during a visit to Tampa, I remembered seeing the Norman Parathyroid Center in the distance, from riding in a car. When my doctor first told me, I would be needing thyroid surgery, I researched the Norman Parathyroid Center. Found out it would end up costing the same if I had the surgery at my local CA hospital. So I called The Norman Parathyroid Center and set up a surgery date! I wanted Experts to do my surgery! It was So Worth it!! Even with our plane tickets, Hotel, Food costs, it came out to cost the same. No need to rent a car, either. The Hotel includes your Charter Bus to and from the Hospital and back to the Airport! The Best Set up Ever! So thankful I chose to go there!!! ❤

I've been dealing with depression since my early 20's, started breaking bones late 20's, dx with osteoporosis with 30. Hospitalized with Congestive heart failure at 34, upon admission i had a near fatal low potassium level of 2.7 was dx as having chronic venous insufficiency and hypokalemia. I'm now 43 and after suffering a spontaneous vertebral fx void of trauma 6 months was put on a high dose of Vitamin D2. And after a second Vitamin d 25 hydroxy serum came back low was dx as deficient. Also 4 years ago i developed hypopigmentation on both sides of my face and neck and a bony lesion on my clavicle. And 3 days I passed a kidney stone the size of a quarter, in the process of passing another one and very painful this time and have yet to be dx bc the last time my PTH was tested it was within normal limits...i don't how much more I can take, Im forgetful, have bouts of dysphagia, and can feel my self getting worse by the day...

My first question would be how many of these surgeons are doing minimally invasive surgery? Secondly - where is the reiteration of reading lab results that it should be noted that the lab ranges include children so adults should have >10 calcium level as a normal range. I am glad that she noted that if your PTH is elevated even though in normal range the PTH should be <20.

I had and still have low vitamin D for several years. Any time I try to raise my vitamin D 30>, I get crazy diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, weakness, trouble breathing and muscle spasms and insane dehydration at 800-1000 IU. I have normal calcium, and I doubt that would be the case if I somehow managed to get vitamin D over 30>. I’d have to be suicidal to attempt it. I feel the symptoms of low vitamin D all day every day. My doctors response to testing for hyperparathyroidism is you have normal calcium, therefore no problem. I have Type 2 diabetes, obesity and hypertension.

If your PTHis high, you should ask about normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism. I have the same symtoms, especially nausea, and high PTH. Vitamin D is low but whenever I try to increase it the nausea gets out of control. I'm currently increasing my calcium intake after years off dairy, but can't take the vit D my doctor prescribed, I can't even get some sunlight without persistent vomiting.

    • @Systemlord30

@@delriver77 You should try 400-600 units of vitamin D. There’s a small chance you have a gene defect that makes you hypersensitive to vitamin D supplements. I can take 600 units, but no more or else I get terrible nausea among other symptoms. I can’t take 600 units if I got outside in the sun, I have to take 400 on days I go outside. I will look into that new variant of hyperparathyroidism. Thank you!

Very helpful information. Thank you! I strongly believe labs such as Quest and LabCorp Need to STOP calling serum Calcium levels up to 10.6 - in someone, say, 50 years old - as “Normal”. I understand that doctors are busy, but too busy to practice critical thinking? It’s astonishing how many doctors don’t consider - or apparently even LOOK at - the actual values on a patient’s lab report. Rather, they pass any test that hasn’t been FLAGGED by the lab’s software as being abnormal. Also, a doctor who orders PTH without also requesting the Calcium levels, and ideally (also) the levels of D, is NOT doing anyone any favors. Hospitals and doctor’s offices should have their CPOE programs prompt the physician to order the tests properly in the first place. I’ve been struggling with this disease for approximately five years based on copies of my previous bloodwork obtained. The two points I made above are the reason I am STILL undiagnosed. It was not until googling what my elevated high calcium levels meant, while on Forteo for Secondary Osteoporosis (which is contraindicated for people with Hypercalcemia, but nobody bothered checking) and having developed bone pain in my hands and feet, that I became aware that a HIGH SERUM CALCIUM IS NOT A GOOD THING. Before October of last year, I ignorantly assumed that high Calcium was “good” and meant the nightly Forteo injections were working to make my bones STRONGER. Seemed like a reasonable assumption to make - and I never got a call from my doctor, which only helped to assure me that my high Calcium was (at least) not a “bad” thing. Thank God for Menopause Taylor’s youtube channel. It was because of her that I learned I needed to GET OFF Forteo, FAST - and am now armed with the basic knowledge I need to better advocate for myself. My levels have been off since 2018 (calcium ranging from 10.2 to 10.9, PTH all over the map, from 47 to 88). And my Rheumatologist STILL suggests that I have “Fibromyalgia”! AND should go on venous Reclast injections to treat my Osteoporosis. This disease has destroyed me. I have had to quit working. I’ve seen Neurologists, worried that I might have a brain tumor or early onset Dementia. I’ve been recommended anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds by NUMEROUS doctors. I’ve had a neuropsychological assessment. I had an insufficiency fracture of the sacrum three years ago - and until I happened upon Dr. Taylor’s UA-cam channel, I had no idea the my elevated calcium levels were a problem. Nobody, in all the years prior, thought to check my Calcium+PTH+D levels. In the last two months, my hair has significantly thinned (40-50% lost, no exaggeration), along with the temple balding which I’ve had for years now. It’s incredibly scary to lose trust and confidence in my doctors, but that’s where I am at. Currently I am on the hunt for the best Endocrine expert and surgeon out there. This video gives me options to look into. Thankyou! The false normal lab reports NEED to go. It’s 2023. Plenty of software engineers would be able to “enhance” the algorithm to factor in age.

I was on Methimazole for about 20 years and it worked well until about 9 days post Covid Vaccine... then T.E.D. get bad. Then had to get surgery and Orbital radiation. As to if the Covid vaccine was the trigger I will never know but I would guess it was... Wish this was being tracked by the CDC. I have met two other people (one Graves like me and one Hashimoto's) that also said they got T.E.D. about 2 weeks after the Covid Vaccine.... I do not think this is rare as you think... but again I wish the CDC would track this on a large scale. To the best of my knowledge none of the cases I mentioned were reported to the CDC by our doctors..

I've been struggling for over a decade with issues, kidney stones, mental fog, bone pain, joint pain, Low D, Low Folic Acid, weight that won't come off or stay off, high blood pressure, pre diabetes, and elevated PTH but good luck getting doctors to really look into it. I'm not giving up but its so frustrating and disheartening. I have a mass on my adrenal gland for past 3 years and was thinking that was it but also looking at Parathyroid as well. The doctors seem afraid to even try to tackle these issues.
